Countries In South America

South America is the fourth largest continent. It is located in the Western Hemispher and majority of it in the Southern Hemisphere with small portion in the Northern Hemisphere. There are 12 independent countries and 3 dependent territoris in South America. Falkland Islands and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands belonging to UK and French Guiana to France. It covers an area of 17,840,000 km2 with a population of 420 million.

It is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean on the west, and by the Atlantic Ocean on the east, southeast and the north and the Caribbean Sea and North America on the northwest.

Brazil is the largest country in South America and it is also the most populas country in South American with more than half of the continent's population. Suriname is the smallest country in South America.
